I have sent emails to Github asking why github.com/solidcp can't be owned by the actual owners of SolidCP:

Hi there, Eric!

Thanks for reaching out! I've looked over the solidcp account and it's not dormant (not all activity on GitHub is public) or available for release under our name-squatting policy.

Please let us know if you have any other questions!

Best,
Kimmy

Wait, so because its not dormant, that makes it safe to keep by squatters?

So if I create a github organization called "apple" and make all members private, and run a cron script to add a commit periodically, that I could squat indefinitely on it?

...Or would Github say "Eric Newton is squatting on this organization called 'apple', so we'll turn that over to our actual friends at apple!  Go apple!"

Hi Eric,

Usernames are available on a first come/first served basis, and I'm sorry that, as Kimmy mentioned, SolidCP does not qualify for release. If you’d like to send a polite message to the user asking them to rename their account so you could have the username, we would be happy to send it on your behalf.

Just to set the expectation here, they are under no obligation to reply. They might be willing to give up the username or they might not. Either way, we will only contact the user on your behalf one time.

If this sounds good to you, just reply back to me with the charming plea you’d like us to pass along to the user. If you’d like them to contact you directly, please include an email address for response.

Please let us know if you have any other questions.

Thanks,
Jack

Ok so how is it even possible for anybody to contact the owner of the repository when there's no one listed publicly.

Catch-22 eh?

You know whats funny... under Net Neutrality laws, you would HAVE TO turn over that orgnaization name to the actual SolidCP owners... because you, and whoever is squatting on SolidCP, are infringing on the true SolidCP author's equal opportunity rights.

It sounds pretty similar to the conversations i had with them.

Remember when i said their replies where kindof off putting? 🙂

its worse though as the user solidcp admin also made public messages to acmesharp project on behalf of solidcp.com

also used to carry our logo and published our source at some point.

to circomvent githubs squatting policy they changed those aspects atleast to the public.

safe to say github is not really doing anything to avoid name abuse and point to first serve basis (even though they litterally msg others in our name)
