I'm trying to change the mailbox plan of an exchange 2013 mailbox and getting the following error

Is there any chance that the email or display name is not unique in your Active Directory but can get multiple results?
SolidCP falls over it if it's not unique and fails to apply (as it has multiple results that it might apply to).
Yes there is a contact with the same display name in another organization.
I have changed the display name of the contact but I still get the same error.
How can I overcome the issue?
Well display name usually doesn't count for this (it gives issues with Calendar / Contact perms) double email address in AD does.
but taking a closer look at your error: Can you try a different retention policy? (or no retention policy) as i think thats where it has an issue for you
there is no retention policy on space level and also no retention policy on the new mailbox plan.
