Good day to All,

What is the best way to migrate a hosting server from Windows Server 2008 R2 to Windows Server 2012 Standard. The first is a VM running on ESXi 5.5 and the new server will also be a VM running on ESXi 6.5. I am running MailEnable 10.11 with more than 1,000 mailboxes, which is the most important item.

Hello,

Migrations more or less depend on services.

for example do you use IIS FTP?, IIS web? Dedicated application pools?

Mailenable (this one is easy to migrate), and what else?

Basically the main difficult item to migrate is the Windows Usernames with passwords.

They are generally used with local Web services (iis / iis ftp / application pools).

Most other services such as mailenable are relatively easy (robocopy files) and more or less just need to time the IP switch (if possible)  or dns switch (if no firewall or possability to move original external ip).

In regard to SolidCP you just need to adjust the connection info in the Server settings.

Regards,

Marco

Thank you Marco,

This is a production hosting server with all the services a user may need. IIS, FTP, MySQL, Microsoft SQL, Microsoft DNS, PHP, and MailEnable. I am not using Active Directory.

Alright.

for FTP is it ms FTP (iis) or are you using something like filezilla?

From all your services the main issue(s) will be IIS (and IIS FTP if you use it).

The others migrate very easy with all passwords intact.

IIS and IIS FTP however cant export the users with passwords intact which means they are either dropped or reset password (without alerting user unless you do it manually or set all users to same password).

Hi Marco,

It's Microsoft FTP. However, I discourage my users to use FTP and have them utilize the File Manager in SolidCP instead. I usually have the FTP port blocked.
