Error during installation: “SQL Server does not exist or access denied”

I've followed the instructions (except for the PS script) from this post here:  https://solidcp.com/forum/question/error-sql-server-does-not-exist-or-acces-denied/

I've enabled the browser service and set it to automatic, made sure it was running. I've restarted all the services, tried changing the authentication to mixed mode. Tried using Windows Authentication and the other option (putting my user/pass in) I've tried using "localhostMSSQLSERVER", tried using the IP/MSSQLSERVER and just the IP and just the MSSQL instance name. Nothing seems to work.

My best guess is that I missed something during the MSSQL 2016 installation but I installed ALL the options during the install.

Has anyone else run into this? Should I downgrade to a different version of MSSQL? Is there an updated PS Script to install SolidCP like in the link above?

Thanks!
J

Hello,

when you login to mssql management what serverinstance does it show?

as MSSQLSERVER is generally servername default, which means if you picked that during setup you only require localhost, or servername, or ip (no mssqlserver behind it).

2016 aswell as any previous version is confirmed working and supported so no need to downgrade.

Regards,

Marco

HYPER-V with the mssql version in quotes. The service name shows the instance of MSSQLSERVER.

Edit: I tried to use HYPER-VMSSQLSERVER for the Sal server along with other variations of this.

well, normally MSSQLSERVER means the default instance of <servername>

so it should be reached by using just the server hostname without anything behind it.

mssql user or local user should have sysadmin rights but thats about it.

I tried just the servername and localhost. Neither work. Mssql is using Windows auth so it should just work since I'm logged in as administrator.
