Hi,

I have an old windows 2008 server with 350 websites on it in Solidcp 1.4.2.

I need to upgrade to benefit SNI in IIS8.

But I guess its to upgrade anyway. So most obvious is to go to Windows server 2019 ?

What is the best way to do that?

Install a new server and move every website ?

Any tips or best practices ?

thx!

Michel

Hello,

Install a new server and move every website is indeed our prefered method. (then just adjust the IIS/system/ftp Provider ID in db Services table)

However if you move websites without active directory make sure that you will need special scripts to re-create the Applicationpool users and set the new passwords in the IIS config (after which you can use another script to re-apply all permissions).

A small tip for new servers: always make sure you set them up right first (for example remove the users group from the hdd security permissions, so not every user has full read+execute on the entire disk).

Only after the setup is good and happy start the migration.

If you need any help we do provide professional support incase things goes sideways.

Regards,

Marco
