Is it possible to restore a backup to a new server, ie the old one doesn't exist for whatever reason or maybe export to a package, so that a domain and all its related data, settings, ftp, database, etc is exported as well, like cPanel pkdacct functionality.

If not what do you think is required to build the functionality, I'm thinking, backup:
Site from IIS
Database
Export config from FTP server if that is possible
Export settings from WSP db
Export certificate if used
Any else that I've missed?

Hello,

A full server backup is still inherited from the WebsitePanel code.

However i have personally never tried it (in Configuration --> Servers --> click on servername --> right panel "Backup" and "restore")

I don't think it will backup everything you listed (and honistly i ain't even sure if it works). But it will be a good starting point.

I do believe backup functionality inside SolidCP should be improved tho, and will add it to the discussion for the next (one after this month) stable release.

Regards,

Marco

Perfect, thanks for raising this, it would be ideal to have the backup performed in such a way that its portable and can be used to move server as well as recover from a disaster.

I'll try the full backup and see how I get on, I think I looked at this back from the WebsitePanel days, where I found a third party that basically said WSP's implementation doesn't work well and doesn't allow to restore to a different server.

Just an updated on this, I've tried the backup feature and although the summary implies the everything needed will be backed up, it isn't.

So I created a couple of sites, ftp accounts and databases. The backup file contained the site, and a catalogue xml with some information, including ftp accounts, but there is no database backup content.

Can I also suggest it would be great to have the ability to backup either:
Just the configuration
Configuration and site / database content
Choose what will be backed up

finally is there a need to name the backup file with a scpak extension, when its just a standard zip file?

Thanks

Backup Restore and Migrate !!

Now the WBRM utility supports such actions not only on WebsitePanel, but also for SolidCP servers.

You can create a backup of WebsitePanel or  SolidCP (and others we don't need to mention their explicit names) and then it will create  .wbrm file.

The .wbrm file can then be restored onto NEW servers or existing servers with SolidCP.

This means you can now set up new servers, and with few clicks just use the .wbrm file and you can migrate from old Servers very fast.

http://wbrm.net

And now.. you can try it free for 37 days! (just migrate and don't use it if you don't want it after - but we are confident you will like it :)) ).

-Robin.
