We have always had an instant alias domain setup on each virtual server when using DNP/WSP. Now since we just update to solidCP, when we create a new domain and create the instant alias it does not work. We can see the dns zone get created for the instant alias, but there is no A record created with the web servers ip address. Is there something else that needs setup somewhere now for this to work?

This bug has been logged already by Marco ( https://git.key4ce.com/SolidCP/v1.0/issues/99) It has a milestone of 1.2.0.

BTW: this was with simpleDNS and the zone only has SOA, and the two NS records

Thanks for the heads up on it also being with simpleDNS. I have added the information and this forum post to the bug.
