I'm sure I saw another post mentioning this but the search isn't finding anything.

When the "preview domain" is created, is MSDNS two new items are created:

  1. a full new forward lookup zone (DOMAIN.previewdomain.com)
  2. a sub domain of the preview domain (so previewdomain.com > extension > domain)

However, both only have nameserver records in them and are missing the A records - hence nothing will resolve.

Hello,

The preview domain does create the A records but only if they exist.

So if you have mail / ftp / web created and enable preview domain --> it creates the records as you would expect (this was fixed in v1.3.0)

If you enable preview domain and then later on create the website it doesn't work (you will then need to disable and re-enable preview domain).

Regards,

Marco

Hi Marco,

Ok, so I thought I realised the problem, but I have found another bug/issue.

  1. If DNS is disabled for a domain (for example, you are using external DNS) - it will not create any preview records (just the NS ones) - i would call this a bug, as a lot of people use external DNS still.
  2. If DNS is enabled, it will, as you say create the MX records, however still doesn't create the A records.

Just tried that with 3 websites - all with the same issue.

And the third issue is still this strange subdomain creation under the main preview domain. When you delete the preview url too, these records are not removed either.

Ok, further investigation.

SolidCP is not creating the A records for any normal websites either.

Under the "IIS 8 Provider" - i have 3 A records set : (blank), * and www.

When creating a new website using the API (WHMCS) - only the * record is created.

If i go to the domain, disable DNS and then re-enable it again - still no (blank) or www record is made.

I am using virtual servers per hosting space, do I need to define the WWW A record in that as well? Or should it automatically pick it up from the main IIS provider?

I'm not sure if the feature works for whmcs.

however for IIS dns record [host_name]  with [ip] value is required since wsp times in instant alias (i am not sure if this is still mandatory).

I can say that preview domain creates A records fine for both my test and live for web's (IIS 8, 10 verified)

I do got the hostname record set though so i am not sure if thats the main diff to make it work.
