Hi,
I'm moving from WSP 2. I thought I remembered there being a way to create a template vhd/x for a remote desktop server and use WSP to provision new RDS servers based on the template. Is this functionality in SolidCP? If so, I cant find the old documentation because anything I try to reach at websitepanel.net forwards me to their new thing. Thanks so much and I'm excited about moving forward with SolidCP!
Hello,
I am guessing you just want a pre-configured template with RDS in there.
From what i know the hyper-v templating hasn't changed much but does need some slight difference in the xml file. (If you need any details on that let me know, i Will ask Trevor to answer them, as i am personally not that familiar with the hyper-v vps setups).
I can say that currently we are developping a vmm module which should improve alot of the existing vps functionalities if your using or want to use vmm. (it's scheduled to be finished developing in + - 14 days).
As far as websitepanel goes: unfortunately the project got hijacked by the project leader. It's actually not WebsitePanel it self (which belongs to Outercurve) that moved to their new thing, but outercurve foundation seems to be dead or inactive enough to not reclaim their project and/or stop them from what their doing with WebsitePanel.
SolidCP should be a nice replacement for most, new management and different approach to things will hopefully satisfy former WebsitePanel users aswell as completely new Panel users 🙂
I've never set one up with WSP either so I dont really know anything about the process (as it related to WSP). Did there used to be documentation for it? Basically I want to start working on my template, getting the OS configured, install a few apps, etc but I dont want to do anything at the outset that will later make it so I cant use it with SolidCP.
Hello,
SolidCP is unable to automatically deploy a VM for use with RDS as and when it needed. As mentioned by Marco you are able to make a template for HyperV and then have them manually deployed to create a pool of machines.
You should be fine to installs apps etc on your template for HyperV aslong as these are able to be used with sysprep.
Regards,
Trevor
