Is there anyway to use the GMail SMTP service for the "SMTP Server Settings" in the "Configuration/System Settings"?

I tried the following without success.

Server: smtp.gmail.com
Port: 465
User: Me@MyDomain.com (my gmail account)
PW: **********  (my gmail password)
Enable SSL: Yes

I get the following error message:

"SMTP Error: General failure
The transaction could not occur. You receive this error when the specified SMTP host cannot be found."

Any assistance or advice would be greatly appreciated on this.

Thanks,

Lane

An overview of the settings can be found here:

However i would not recommend using gmail as your panel mail server, in the mail templates the "from " address will need to be defined properly, however Resellers can overwrite host settings to personalize their emails to their users, but they will still use your gmail smtp. (which will most likely bounce).

Hi, I have same problem with SMTP configuration.

I don't use Gmail smtp, but my provider. With authentication. But the problem is the same.

In server were installed SolidCP there is a firewall, but outgoing routes are all allowed. I use the version of 1.4.7

Hello,

If the SMTP is configued in Configuration -> System Settings -> SMTP server it should work fine.

Do note as Marco said you need to set the from address on all the mail templates.

Regards,

Trevor
