Hi all,
This was always a problem with Websitepanel and I am surprised not more people mention it now.
When you go to Websites and load that page, it is so slow we get complaints all the time.
I know it has to load a lot of IIS data and also parse the web.config, but there must be something there that is causing it to be so slow.

There was once a patch for Websitepanel that actually fixed it. I believe it broke in the next one. It is also broke and slow in SolidCP.

Basically the website detail page is seriously slow, it can take up to 30 seconds to a minute to load on an IIS server with over a hundred websites or so. There must be something its trying to load that is slowing it down.

Can we get this resolved please? It would be a major step forward for us.

Thanks.

Hello,

For one: which IIS version are you using?

for example IIS 7 is more bothered by this then for example 8 or 10.

but for the most part it all depends on how big your applicationhost file is, and how fast your server is able to read, and search it.

For example my servers have about 500 - 1000 sites each but they run on SSD's with 2000mb's i/o's capacity which reads the applicationhost file + web.config within a few seconds tops. (all Windows 2012 R2 servers)

Other things that might help is SolidCP Application pool settings (so no time out/ recycling time / and always running) to avoid any first load issue which in IIS natively always takes a while. (best to do this for portal, enterprise and all servers)

Regards,

Marco

Thanks Marco,

The server is IIS7. I understand the applicationhost file slowdown issue as have seen it on large older servers even just using the IIS snapin.

But this one is not huge, its about 20mb max.
The IIS snapin loads almost instantly as does going to a single websites details in the snapin.

What I don't i understand is that one patch of Websitepanel had it running perfectly, but after the last patch from them it broke again.

So I was wandering if it was just one setting it was slow on reading. Its almost like the CP is loading the full details for the whole of applicationhost instead of just the sites meta.

Any ideas?

I would echo this same observation. We were running about 600 sites on ancient server with a 4 core AMD CPU, now we moved to 12 core CPU and 64 gig and its actually slower to load that web property sheet. I can't remember which upgrade or patch did this but something along the way got changed.

Hello it has been a while, but i have not forgotten you guys 🙂 ,

I have looked at change sets all the way down to year 2012 in regard to websites.

there's really very little difference between 2012 and now, the main thing i noticed was a helicon zoo tab that doesn't appear to be working.

I have removed that in my dev environment. (however i can't reproduce your issue to start with so i can't really tell if that makes any difference).

I am currently also working on a x64 SolidCP version with asp.net 4.5

If you have a development lab or similar i would wish to invite the both of you to run the x64 SolidCP version and test it out on functionality and especially speed.

Do note: the x64 version seems to be prone to consume double memory then the 32bit one.

Regards,

Marco
