Hello, I have a problem that I have been sitting for weeks now and try to solve it and get stuck.

Following situation :
I have set up the hosted exchange and it seems to work that far.
I can connect via the generated DNS domain name entries, let's just call them "mail.myhosting.com" with Outlook and also iPhone and Android.
In this Exchange domain I have an MX, an Autodiscover, an SPF and DMARC entry set, which work fine.

If I now create an SRV entry for another domain:

Example: _autodiscover._tcp.blubblub.com SRV 10 10 443 autodiscover.myhosting.com

The associated MX record is:

mail.blubblub.com 14400 MX 10 mail.meinhosting.com

Then I only need to specify the email and password in Outlook and Outlook sets up the mailbox automatically.

BUT that does not work on iPhone and Android devices.
As soon as I set up an iPhone or an Android device to use the Exchange server, after entering the email and the password, I get the input mask and must enter the server name and the account data.

Although I can do that and the system then finds the Exchange Server and the mailbox and connects but that should actually happen automatically.

Now I'm not sure what it is, on the SRV? on the MX? At the firewall (OPNSense)?

Can someone help me there?
I'm really desperate.

Hello,

An android device should work fine with just the SRV record but it is dependent on the Android version as i believe there was an issue with older devices.

We generally do not recommend publishing a A/Cname Autodiscover record as this in the past has caused issues with Outlook (Although this bug does appear to have been resolved on newer versions of Outlook).

I can see your publishing the SRV to a autodiscover domain. You should do this to the external FQDN so it would be following your example:

_autodiscover._tcp.blubblub.com SRV 10 10 443 mail.meinhosting.com

Thanks,

Trevor Robinson

Hi Trevor, thanks for the reply.

I have set this yesterday so how you recommend it to me :

_autodiscover._tcp.blubblub.com SRV 10 10 443 mail.meinhosting.com

But it dont change the situation, iphone ( iPhone 7 ) and android ( Samsung Galaxy 9 ) with the latest firmware versions ask me for the server and user credencials.

by the way, the Outlook App from Android or iphone store works, i have only the problem when i use the default mail app in iPhone or Android

Also the Microsoft Remote connectivity website show me that the SRV record is working fin, it can connect with all tests.

Hello,

If you are still having issues i would make sure you allow time for the DNS to change to the correct fqdn of the exchange server. You can also check with the Microsoft Connectivity Analyzer for any errors.

If you would like us to take a further look into your case we can check your configuration and provide troubleshooting on your environment via our premium paid support options. If you are interested in this please use the contact form to open a support ticket.

Kind Regards,
