Thats excatly how i tested it. When you do this and create a test.asp for example it should error when you try access it.

Same issue here - deselect, save - the web.config file datestamp updates, but it doesn't actually remove the "asp" line from the file, so yes, you can still use .ASP files with that box unticked.
Also on 2012R2 - if that helps.

In our tests it showed to work proper (windows 2012 R2 and windows 2016).
can you verify with asp unchecked, and creating/ loading an asp file (not aspx, etc) simply loads for you?
As on our dev environment aswell as live it just errors on the page.

Yup I can confirm that - a classic ASP (.asp) file loads just fine when the option is either ticked or unticked.

I have double checked again and when ASP is unticked out ASP test page shows a 404 error.
Can you show me screenshots of what you are seeing?
